Statement on updated Australian Drinking Water Guidelines

01 Jul 2025

CS Energy is committed to supporting landholders in our Callide PFAS investigation area whose drinking water contains PFAS levels above revised national drinking water guidelines.

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) has released updated Australian Drinking Water Guidelines (ADWG) for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), which include significantly lower guideline values for PFOS and PFHxS.

Each State and Territory will now have the responsibility for implementing the new guidelines. CS Energy will continue to work closely with relevant Queensland state and local agencies as implementation plans are developed and understood.

Acting Callide Power Station Site General Manager, Grant Barnes, said the health of the community remained CS Energy’s priority.

“CS Energy is working with Queensland Government agencies to understand how these changes will be applied in Queensland and what they mean for the Callide area,” Mr Barnes said.

“We will continue to support landholders in the investigation zone near Callide Power Station whose drinking water source has PFAS levels above the existing guidelines, and this support will extend to landholders affected by the new guidelines.

“Our team has delivered a range of tailored domestic drinking water solutions to date, including bottled water, potable water deliveries and rainwater tanks.

“We will work closely with health experts and landholders to ensure the solutions that we offer are practical, effective and tailored to their domestic needs.

“CS Energy been in contact with landholders within our investigation area about the updated guidelines and we encourage them to contact our PFAS team if they have questions.”

CS Energy regularly monitors PFAS on and offsite, with groundwater and surface water sampling carried out by an independent environment consultancy. The work is guided by national and state advice and is part of our ongoing water monitoring program.
