CS Energy powers ahead on Queensland’s Energy Roadmap priorities

CS Energy has welcomed the priorities in the Queensland Government’s newly released Energy Roadmap, including the development of new gas-fired generation.

CS Energy CEO Brian Gillespie said the roadmap confirms that CS Energy will continue to play a significant role in the state’s energy future.

“Some of our coal-fired power stations are among the newest in Australia and play an essential role in maintaining reliable and affordable electricity for Queenslanders,” Mr Gillespie said.

“CS Energy is focused on operating our assets safely and reliably to their technical lives, with options to extend further based on system need, asset integrity, and economic viability.”

Mr Gillespie welcomed the strong support for gas generation in the roadmap and said CS Energy was leading the way with the Brigalow Peaking Power Plant, which will commence early groundworks next month.

“The 400 MW Brigalow Peaking Power Plant located next to Kogan Creek Power Station in the Western Downs is the most advanced gas-fired generation project in the state,” Mr Gillespie said.

“We have also undertaken advanced studies into gas generation at Callide in Central Queensland, positioning us to support Queensland Investment Corporation’s market sounding for an additional 400 MW of gas-fired capacity in the region.

“We are committed to new investment opportunities that provide commercial value in partnership with the private sector, as well as delivering our two wind farm projects currently under construction at Lotus Creek and Boulder Creek in Central Queensland.”
