The Lotus Creek Wind Farm project achieved a milestone last week, with the official opening of the Yellow Creek Bridge.

Designed to transport wind turbines and blades over Yellow Creek – which also supplies water to one of our host landowners’ homes – the new 80 metre long and 6.5 metre wide bridge has four spans of 18.6 metres plus two approach slabs which have been designed to support loads of more than 100 tonnes to be transported across.

CS Energy’s Head of Renewables and Firming Andrew Wilson said the bridge, which took six months to construct, was a vital link between the two halves of the project.

“Roughly half the turbines will be on one side of the bridge, and the rest will be on the other side,” Andrew said.

“This bridge is critical to get us across Yellow Creek, which is the main waterway through the project site. It had to be constructed with the width, the length, and the strength to take the oversized loads of the turbine towers and turbine blades, which will start to be delivered in early 2026.

“The bridge is a legacy part of the wind farm – it will be used for construction and ongoing operations for wind farm staff and technicians to be able to access the site, and also for our host landowners to access parts of their property for grazing and other activities that were previously really challenging to get to.”

Landowner Trevor Bradford said that it had been amazing to see the bridge constructed.

“We’ve been here for nearly 50 years and never envisaged something like this,” Trevor said.

“We’ve got 40,000 acres of cattle breeding property, and on this side of the road we’ve got 23,000 acres. We run about 2000 head of cattle, and this bridge just opens up access to the property, in any weather. It’s so much easier getting vehicles around.”

Thank you to our construction delivery partners Zenviron and Vestas, and subcontractors Davbridge and Dundrum Civil for their work on this project.
