CS Energy generates electricity using coal, natural gas, coal seam methane and landfill gas. We are one of three government owned electricity generators in Queensland (Stanwell Corporation and Tarong Energy), as well as several private generating companies.

A high voltage transmission network, operated by Powerlink Queensland, transmits the electricity from the power station to the national electricity market (NEM). Further information on the NEM can be found on the NEMMCO website.

At the Mica Creek Power Station, the electricity is connected to a remote grid, which supplies just the north west Queensland area.

A retail company supplies individual homes with electricity from the national electricity market, or remote grid. In Queensland these retail companies are Energex and Ergon Energy.

There are many web sites offering information on electricity. For school projects, check out the ‘kids-site’ at www.energex.com.au or for details of Electricity Generation and Supply System in Queensland go to the Department of Energy web site.
