Schools program

Calling all Power Investigators! Learn about different forms of energy through our Energise Electrovale competition.

Learning centre

In 2009, we launched a new schools program that challenged Grade 6 and 7 students in the Western Downs Shire, where our Kogan Creek Power Station is located, to find a way to power the fictional town of Electrovale.

Through our Energise Electrovale program, local students were transformed into power investigators and filmmakers, putting renewable and non-renewable fuel sources under the microscope and presenting an energy solution for Electrovale through a short film and report.

To kick off the program, our Kogan Creek Power Station hosted an energy forum at site, giving 100 students the chance to see first-hand how a coal-fired power station works and watch renewable energy demonstrations.

We received 13 entries into the competition and 13 different ways to power Electrovale!
Geothermal, tidal, hydrogen fuel cells, solar, wind, low emission coal and even rodent-power were some of the fabulous fuel sources proposed by our student PIs.

2009 winners

Congratulations to the winning teams from Brigalow State School and Dalby South State School.
