Swanbank B Power Station
Swanbank B is a coal-fired power station that has been providing electricity since 1971. The power station comprises four 120 megawatt units and is fuelled by black coal trucked from mines in south east Queensland.
After extensive review, CS Energy announced on 26 March 2010 that it would progressively close Swanbank B by 2012.
We are working with employees to cater for their needs. CS Energy has a policy of no forced redundancies and will work on retraining and transferring staff across our business. Voluntary redundancies will be considered on request and independent advice and support will be provided to staff to ensure the best possible outcomes for each of them.
CS Energy will still require a workforce to operate the newer, gas-fired Swanbank E, which was commisioned in 2002.
The national grid has ample electricity generation capacity available to cater for Swanbank B's closure.
