About

Where we came from

CS Energy is a Queensland government owned corporation that was established on 1 July 1997 under the Government Owned Corporations Act 1993. We are incorporated as a public company and are subject to Corporations Law.

Our company’s formation followed the reform of the Queensland electricity supply industry in the 1990s. Previously, the assets of CS Energy formed part of the State owned generation company AUSTA electric.

CS Energy's portfolio of assets changed on 1 July 2011 following the Queensland Government's review of its three government owned electricity generation companies. For more information, visit the Generator Restructure page.

Who we report to

CS Energy reports to two Queensland Government Ministers that hold shares in CS Energy on behalf of the people of Queensland:

  • Rachel Nolan MP, Minister for Finance and The Arts and
  • Stephen Robertson MP, Minister for Energy and Water Utlilites.

To keep these Ministers informed about our performance, the CS Energy Board is required to provide the following:

  • A Corporate Plan for the next five years.
  • A Statement of Corporate Intent (SCI) outlining our plans for the next financial year.
  • Quarterly Reports on our progress in meeting the goals in the SCI and Corporate Plan.
  • An Interim Report on our mid-year performance.
  • An Annual Report detailing our performance for the financial year and progress in meeting goals in both the SCI and Corporate Plan.

The SCI and Annual Report are tabled in State Parliament annually and made available to the public.  The Interim Report is available on our website on our Key Financials page.

Improving our performance

CS Energy sees corporate governance as a process of continual improvement.

An independent corporate governance specialist is periodically engaged to evaluate the performance of our Board. Details of the most recent evaluation and our response are in our Annual Report.

We also review our corporate governance policies and procedures in response to new legislation, industry trends or particular issues as they arise.
