Our safety system
Our Occupational Health and Safety System provides a uniform approach to health and safety at all CS Energy sites. The system comprises corporate policies, procedures, audits, training, and health and safety manuals.
Recent enhancements to CS Energy's health and safety management system received a Highly Commended at the Queensland Safe Work Awards 2011 in the category of Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System.
Improving our performance
In 2010, CS Energy reviewed its health and safety management system to address an increase in its lost time injury frequency rate that was above industry average. A Taskforce of staff from all sites introduced enhancements to the system to achieve greater consistency, better manage risk, improve accountabilty and reward good work practices. CS Energy revised its health and safety policy and manual, and introduced three new procedures:
- A Fair and Just Culture Procedure for incident management
- A Health and Safety 'Life Savers' Procedure covering six non-negotiable safety rules
- A Minimum Health and Safety Standards for Critical Risks Procedure.
By late 2011, these changes had significantly improved CS Energy's safety performance - our lost time injury frequency rate reduced from 7 in 2009/10 to 2.4 in 2010/11. In October 2011, CS Energy received a Highly Commended at the Queensland Safe Work Awards 2011 in the category of Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System.
