Graduate profile

Derek Freeman, Engineer

“I started as a graduate engineer with CS Energy and have recently attained my Chartered Professional Engineer qualifications. By working as an engineer with a power station you learn about more than just generators and transformers. You develop an appreciation of mechanical and chemical systems that are required for power generation. I’ve worked at both Swanbank and Mica Creek power stations, so I’ve seen how gas and coal-fired power stations operate. Through CS Energy I have also travelled to other power stations in Queensland and overseas. I have been actively involved in a variety of work including generator rewinds, plant-based projects and emergency repairs. CS Energy provided financial assistance for me to attain my Chartered Professional Engineer qualifications and I’ve done several subjects in the Power Generation Skills Development Program as well. At CS Energy I’ve been able to work in areas that are interesting and challenging, with the support to take my career in the direction that I have wanted.”
